Shipaton 2025 – Day 1 – Starting with the User

Day 1 of my Shipaton 2025 journey - a hackathon challenge to build and launch a mobile app in 2 months. Today’s focus: designing the intro screen and a 3-step user onboarding flow to craft a personalized app experience.

Design Choice: Asking About the User First

Instead of the typical onboarding where apps showcase their features or splash fancy animations, I’m flipping the script:

👉 I’m asking users about themselves first.

The goal? Understand their intent and needs early on, so the app can adapt accordingly. This approach is less about pitching the app and more about learning from the user to provide a tailored experience.

Progress Made Today

✔️ Clean & minimal Intro Screen to set a smooth first impression.

✔️ Designed 3 onboarding questions that help me learn about the user.

✔️ Focused on making the flow feel like a conversation, not a lecture.

Why This Matters?

First impressions are crucial. I want the user to feel like the app “gets them” right from the start. This kind of interactive onboarding can increase engagement and reduce drop-offs.

With the 2-month countdown ticking, balancing personalization with fast execution will be a constant challenge. But it’s worth it.
